Sheila Morehouse - Requiescat in pace

Our dear friend, Sheila Morehouse, has entered into eternal life. Sheila was an alto in the choir of St. John the Evangelist and a founding member of the Stamford Schola Gregoriana. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A Requiem Mass will be offered for the repose of her soul on Saturday, September 22 at 10:00 A.M., at the Church of St. John the Evangelist in Stamford, Conn. Rev. Kevin P. Fitzpatrick will be the celebrant, and Francis Morehouse will serve. A reception in Nagle Hall will follow the Mass. Sheila’s family and all of us at St. John’s hope that you will be able to attend. If you are a willing and able baker, cakes and cookies for the reception would be gratefully accepted.

SHEILA M. MOREHOUSE
A longtime resident of Greenwich passed away on July 31, 2007 at the Greenwich Hospital after an extended illness, she was 71. She was born on December 10, 1935 in Newport, RI to the late Joseph A. and Agnes (O’Connor) McEnness. Sheila was a Professor of Chemistry at Manhattanville College for many years. She was a popular and unusually fruitful member of the faculty there, sending many of her graduates on to earn doctorates, not only in chemistry, but also in medicine, sometimes in both. She was raised in Newport, RI where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at Salve Regina University.
She was also an enthusiastic research chemist, her field of interest being Bio-Inorganic Chemistry, in particular studying the potential anti-cancer properties of organic complexes of copper, which she synthesized. Sheila studied in such world-respected laboratories as Cornell University, Imperial College (London), M.I.T., Brookhaven National Laboratories, Yale, and Columbia, where she received her PH.D. She also enjoyed singing polyphonic sacred music, and taking ballet classes.
Sheila is survived by her husband of forty-eight years, Frank Morehouse of Greenwich. She is also survived by her two older sisters, Patricia Moira Duelfer of Deer Park, Long Island, and Elizabeth Raffa of Middletown, RI, and an older brother, Joseph F. McEnness of Newport, RI, and seven nephews, and nieces. There will be no calling hours. A funeral mass will take place on Saturday August 4, 2007 at 9:30 A.M. at Sacred Heart R.C. Church on Willet Ave. in Port Chester, NY. Interment will take place in Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery in Little Compton, RI. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 229 Willet Ave., Port Chester, NY 10573.
